Growing up as a dub I suffered a sort of paranoia that my life was an experiment to see how a person would react to certain situations. I think it was my way of making sense of the crazy life we had. Watching that film was like looking inside my head as a child. I'm talking from a really young age here too. I wonder whether this is a delusion others raised as witnesses have experienced?

1914 and 1919 have to go!
by Mickey mouse ini was reading an interesting thread in the "best of" sub forum about how the wbts are referring to 1914 less and less in the literature.
this thread was from 2001 (would love to paste the link here but i have serious technical difficulties with this site .
i definitely see the society using the "silent dropping" technique referenced by ray franz and expect to see 1914 discounted completely in the near future.

I was reading an interesting thread in the "best of" sub forum about how the WBTS are referring to 1914 less and less in the literature. This thread was from 2001 (would love to paste the link here but I have serious technical difficulties with this site ), if anything the trend has definitely become stronger IMO. We had a public talk a few weeks back which went briefly into the gentile times, I couldn't remember the last time that happened.
I definitely see the society using the "silent dropping" technique referenced by Ray Franz and expect to see 1914 discounted completely in the near future. I also see the inspection in 1919 going and here's why. With hindsight even the most devout JW can see the organization was a mess back then. There's no way in hell Jesus would pick them as his representatives on earth.
Has anyone else wondered whether the society may eventually concede that Jerusalem was destroyed in 587/86 and shift the end of the gentile times to 1935?
P.S: sorry about the red font, don't know how that happened either.
Mickey.

Do the Governing body know they are being dishonest?
by strawberry cake ini wonder if anyone has any ideas on this.
who, what is behind the wts.
is it just men genuinely making mistakes but are sincerely trying to serve god?
-

I have wondered the same. I think the majority of them are probably sincere but one or two have to know for sure it's a crock. Maybe they just feel trapped like the rest of us? The difference is, they have it in their power to release the rest of us.

An idea for those with "believing" mates
by Olin Moyles Ghost inin my short time on this board, i have noticed that there are many of us whose spouses do not yet share our balanced perception of the society.
the following suggestion is something i use with mrs. ghost from time to time.
as always, your mileage may vary.

Nice idea! I have seen people say many times that the best way to get someone out is using the society's own literature - surely nothing in there can harm us?!

What positive things can you take from being raised JW?
by Mickey mouse inrather than getting too down about wasting the best years of my life in a cult .
i have a really great imagination.
you have to have one to get through five hours of meetings per week at a young age.

Rather than getting too down about wasting the best years of my life in a cult I have been thinking about how being raised a JW may have had a silver lining. Here are mine....

I'm good at public speaking.
I've joined this forum.
Quiet here today isn't it?! Anyone else care to share?

Once You Had Doubts, How Long Before You Got On The Internet?
by minimus inthe watchtower society keeps telling everyone to stay away from the evil internet.
they claim that once you surf the internet, even if it's done innocently, it's the beginning of the end.
were you personally affected in your faith because you turned on the computer?

Arrggghh! I can't use the quote facility. Someone else said that "apostate material" was not what they expected, this was also my experience. I had always seen "apostates" characterized as either bitter individuals who had been ejected from the congregation for wrong doing or people who wanted to draw their own following. I never expected to find stuff like the UN debacle, or an ex member of the governing body!

Why Do JW's not use Child care or Sunday Type School?
by kwr inwhile i have only been to one meeting my entire life i have always found it odd that jw's don't use child care or sunday type school for children.
what is the reason for this policy by wts?
tia.

In the case of Child care I guess it's part of the push to expose them to "the world" as little as possible. Here in the UK I don't actually know anyone who has used childcare (as in for whole days whilst the parents work) before their children were of school age. Then again if you're a window cleaner or shop assistant it probably doesn't pay to work and pay for childcare. There are some who frown upon non-compulsory nursery school here which is provided for 3-5 year olds. I have taken a little heat from others for sending mine there.

Alarming statement in today's study article in WT...
by Mickey mouse inparagraph 15: "as we get nearer to the outbreak of the great tribulation, we may well receive some detailed instructions.
our safe journey through those troublesome days will depend on our keeping in step with other loyal servants of jehovah.
" this in the context of a wt discussing the israelites' exodus from egypt and how jehovah had them into a position where there seemed "no way out".

This in the context of a WT discussing the Israelites' Exodus from Egypt and how Jehovah had them into a position where there seemed "no way out". We need to trust the FDS....does anyone else see a sort of siege mentality here?! It made me ask myself how most JW's would react if instructed to do something which would endanger their life.

When you see the disgusting thing that causes desolation...
by Mickey mouse in...standing in a holy place.. i am sure this must have been discussed before but i can't find it in a search.
so if the disgusting thing is the un i think i can think of a time when it has stood in a place jw's consider "holy".
i never bought that the "holy place" was christendom when it has supposedly been denounced by god already.

I am ashamed to say that I wrote such a letter to a lifelong friend when she left a decade ago. A couple of years ago I bumped into her, we got chatting and we are now in contact again. Thankfully she didn't hold a grudge. I hope your friends see the light eventually like I did.
